I want to send you a file. What are the requirements?

Image Size and File Formats:

Ideally, files should be setup as follows:

  • 300 dpi @ 25% scale.  (This is the same as 150 dpi at 100% scale, which is also fine).
  • All fonts/text converted to outlines (paths).
  • All transparencies flattened.
  • Generally CMYK is the preferred colour mode and tends to provide consistent colour. RGB colour mode is also accepted, but colour matching is more difficult.  Please do NOT mix and match CMYK and RGB in the same file.

A quick note on CMYK vs RGB. Technically, RGB is superior to CMYK because the RGB mode has a significantly larger colour gamut than CMYK.  Unfortunately, design programs and RIP software seem to produce more consistent and predictable colour results when working in CMYK.

Poster World accepts the following file formats: JPG, TIF, PDF, and EPS files.

What are Resolution and DPI?

Resolution and DPI are often used interchangeably, but they are quite different. Knowing the difference between them will enable you to get the most from Poster World's services.

Any digital image is composed of pixels. The pixels are the small coloured square dots that can sometimes be seen when images are enlarged too much, or if you look at your screen close enough. Resolution is the number of pixels in the horizontal direction by the number of pixels in the vertical direction. For example, a picture with 1200 pixels at the horizontal direction and 2100 pixels at the vertical direction would have a resolution of 1200 x 2100 pixels (pronounced 1200 by 2100 pixels).

There's a tradeoff. The higher the resolution, the bigger the file is. It will take more disk space, occupy more memory when loaded, and will take longer to be transferred through the Web. On the other hand, the higher the resolution, the better the image looks when printed. We feel it is better to wait a bit more for your image to upload than to have a bad print in the end.

What is the production time?

POSTER PRINTS OR SIGNAGE

Once we have received suitable files and approval to print, the usual production time is 1 week. Urgent prints can be produced in 1 - 2 days, but may incur a surcharge.

ART PRINTS

If the art-print is in stock at the time of your order, the usual production time is 1-2 weeks. Delivery of Giclée (digitally printed on demand) prints is also 1-2 weeks.

If the art-print needs to be ordered in from our supplier, delays may be as much as 8 weeks; although 4-6 weeks is more usual. During Christmas stocking and gift fairs, please allow for additional delays due to extra demand.

What are the freight/packaging costs and delivery times?

Freight and packaging is charged at cost and, unless specified, will be sent with our preferred courier with a delivery time of approximately 2-3 days. Please inspect the packing at the time of delivery and do not sign for goods that have signs of damage. Claims for goods that have been signed for may not be honoured by the courier company. Damage caused during transportation should be reported within 3 days.

What about damaged goods and returns?

We do not offer sale or return terms. All orders are carried out to your specifications and are therefore on a final sale basis. Should you receive a faulty or damaged item, please contact us as soon as possible. We accept full responsibility for any faulty product and, providing stock is available, will undertake to replace goods immediately. Please report faulty goods within 1 week of delivery.
